Hiatus

Hello world! Yesterday I got my computer back after four long months of IPadding. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm not appreciative of the invention of the tablet. It's just all that finger scrolling, and smeary-smeariness, and the feeling that I am looking at apps all the time that get to me. Anyhow, my computer came back to life, and I am grateful to Jesus for that!! Long live the INTERNET! So here is a little update for you to get us re-aqauainted:

Do ya'll remember this ottoman that I made a few years back? I bought an old coffee table from Goodwill for 20.00 if I remember correctly.

It was my first ottoman project, and while it was cute, all I saw was a crafty lady mess. She sat like that in the project graveyard Tyler's garage for the past two years.
Until I saw one of my favorite designers Jamie Meares use one in her store, Furbish. It's called a Ming table, and while I usually don't just LOVE asian decor I thought I'd give it a whirl.
I wanted to paint it an exciting color, but alas all the fun colors I wanted to use were too much for my brown room. So what do you do when you don't have a fun color? Use a high gloss boring color! Works every time. I went to Walmart and got my handy dandy Rustoleum paint in Almond.

Enter old Ming table:

And here she is today in all her glossy glory:

I gave her a little rub too. Ya'll know I like a good furniture rubbing. I was hoping that I could cross over to a nice modern lacquer finish, but I'm just not ready.

Lastly, have you heard? If not, where have you been?! Tyler is making an album at the end of the summer! It is all very exciting. He has been working very hard and the songs show it. I can't wait for it to all come together. Until then go to: igg.me/at/tylernewberry and check us out!

  1. Oh how I wish I had that in me to do things like that!! I totally love what you've done to the Asian table. It's rocks - like you.

  2. How is it that it had never occurred to me that painting something a glossy "boring" shade is less daunting than color?? Genius!

  3. I am just visiting your blog for the first time. Love the table! You did a great job! As I scrolled down to the picture of Tyler on his album, my daughter (who is 3) saw the picture and said "Mommy, how did that guy get dead with music?!" I just had to share that little tidbit :). I hope y'all are doing well!!
